Vein stripping surgery is a surgical procedure that has been used for many years to treat varicose veins. While it can be effective in treating this condition, it is considered a more invasive and involved procedure than some of the newer, minimally invasive alternatives that are available today. The procedure is usually done under general anesthesia and may require a hospital stay.
Some of these newer treatments include procedures like sclerotherapy and endovenous ablation, which are less invasive and require less downtime for recovery. These treatments can often be performed in a doctor's office or outpatient facility and have fewer associated risks and complications.
While vein stripping surgery can be effective, it may not be necessary or the best option for every patient.
